Is Buying From Cheap Asian Countries - Costing Western Jobs?

I recently received an email from a friend showing a huge Danish container ship, which efficiently brought goods in from China to the USA within 5 days. The commentary with the images indicated that the West is suffering from high unemployment and a poor financial state because everyone is buying cheap goods from overseas:

A recent documentary on the History Channel noted that nearly
all of these containers are shipped back to China , EMPTY. Yep, that's right.
We send nothing back on most of these ships. What does that tell you about
the current financial state of this country? Just keep buying those imported
goods (mostly gadgets, inferior goods and junk) until you run out of money.

Then you may wonder what the cause of unemployment (maybe even your job)
in the U.S. And Canada (Australia also?) might be????

'Nuff said ??

No, NOT 'nuff said!

I don't know who originally wrote the comment and I expect that someone else added the "(Australia also?)" bit later on in the chain, but did he/she also consider both lanes of the two way street?

Australian, American, Canadian or otherwise, I don't think anyone is un-patriotic enough to say they don't want to support their country (financially), but the fact that the bulk of consumer dollars eagerly go to Chinese - produced goods speak the truth much more loudly:
"We don't want to be ripped off by local overpriced goods produced by non-competitive local companies"
So whether this foreign spending is costing jobs or not, I'm sure that the average person who is worried about unemployment isn't about to spend their hard-earned dollars to keep another local person in a job which produces a non-competitive product.

I'd also bet that whoever wrote those comments has a household filled with gadgets/appliances which are made in China.
